Hi there, I'm new to modding PAYDAY 2's textures. So I have 2 problems with editing the textures of PD2. One is negligable, the other is giving me trouble.
So here's the first one: I extracted the game files. I want to edit, let's say the alienware mask. But I don't get the 2.texture files anywhere.
Not for this mask only, for every single one of them too. Here's how it looks: This is negligable because I can always open up textures from mods and use those as a template (I would never upload something with minor changes and call it my work. I'm pretty much trying to edit textures for myself here).
Now the other one is the real pain in the♥♥♥♥♥. I'm using GIMP (it says GIMP 2 on my desktop tho, idk if there's a difference). I've installed the DDS plugin, and this is what I get when I open anything that's '.dds': Removing alpha layer transparancy gives me this though and it's slightly more visible but it's still hell. If anyone knows what the actual ♥♥♥♥ is going on, then please tell me because I literally have no idea whatsoever, and thanks ahead. Odd, GIMP works perfectly fine for me when opening.dds files. Maybe try a different DDS plugin if alternative ones exist? The one I have gives me a popup with 3 checkbox options when opening.dds files, one about mipmaps (which I always uncheck), and two about something else that can't remember off the top of my head (which I leave alone and checked).
Also, are you sure that that isn't just how the texture is supposed to look? Most of Payday 2's textures aren't exactly of the highest quality, and they seem to be weird when it comes to transparency, often being almost completely see-through (yet still somehow rendered perfectly fine in-game). You're best bet would probably be using someone elses mod as a template to go off of. That's how I've done any of my own texture editing (although that's also because I can't be bothered to extract and sort through all of these textures myself). The transparency thing could still end up being an issue, making them hard to work with yourself, but yeah.
Not sure what else there is to do.
